Dehumidifying and dehydrating agent, air-conditioning, drying of compressed air and other gases, and liquids, such as refrigerants and oils containing water in suspension, recovery of natural gasoline from natural gas, bleaching of petroleum oils, catalyst and catalyst carrier, chromatography, anti-caking agent in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, in waxes to prevent slipping, in dietary supplements.

2. HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION


2.1 Health Effects - Acute

Swallowed

No adverse effects expected.

Eye

May cause irritation, redness and pain.

Skin

May cause irritation with dryness and abrasion.

Inhaled

May cause dryness and irritation to mucous membranes, nose and throat. Symptoms may include coughing, sore throat and wheezing.

2.2 Health Effects - Chronic

Repeated exposure may cause symtpoms similar to those listed for acute effects.

2.3 First Aid

Swallowed

Wash out mouth thoroughly with water. In severe cases obtain medical attention.

Eye

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting upper and lower eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention if irritation persists.

Skin

Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse. Get medical attention if irritation develops.

Inhaled

Remove to fresh air. Get medical attention for any breathing difficulty.

First Aid Facilities

Ensure an eye bath and safety shower are available and ready for use.

3. PRECAUTIONS FOR USE


3.1 Exposure Standards

TWA: 10 mg/m3 according to Worksafe . OES, Longterm: 3 mg/m3 - Silica emorphous, respirable dust.

3.2 Engineering Controls

Use adequate ventilation to ensure that airbourne concentrations are kept below the exposure standard. Use extraction hood. Use ventilation as appropriate to quantity handled.

3.3 Personal Protection

Use dust respirator. Ensure respirator is clean, well fitting and in good working order. All respirators should comply with n Standard AS1716 and be used in accordance with AS1715. Use rubber or plastic gloves. If handling large quantites use plastic aprons, sleeves, and boots. Wear long sleeves and close-weave cotton.

4.3 Spills and Disposal

Spills

Clean up personnel should wear appropriate protective clothing. Do not allow to mix with hydrogen halides, halogen oxides, light metals/heat, XeF6.

Liquids should be contained with sand or earth, and both liquids and solids transferred to suitable containers.

Disposal

Dispose in accordance with regulations. No environmental hazards anticipated provided that the material is handled and disposed of with due care and attention. Can be safely disposed of as ordinary refuse.

4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD

Fire / Explosion

Not flammable. Avoid incompatibles such as hydrogen fluoride, fluorine, oxygen difluoride, chlorine triluoride, strong acids, strong bases and oxidisers. Avoid extreme heat conditions and moisture conditions. Hazardous decomposition products include oxides of carbon and silicon may be formed when heated to decomposition.
